About this tool
This tool counts every word on a page or in pasted text, then measures how often each one, two, and three word phrase repeats. Density is that count divided by the total word count, shown as a percentage, using the same total for every phrase length so the numbers stay comparable. In URL mode, the title tag, meta description, every heading, image alt text, link titles, table content, and the visible body text are all included, since those are the places search engines actually read a page's content and keywords from. Repeated navigation and footer text, and anything the page itself marks visually hidden, are left out, since those either repeat on every page of the site or are not what a search engine weighs as visible content. Common words like "the" or "and" are counted too, since an accurate total requires them, though they can be hidden from the single word view. Pasted text is analyzed entirely in your browser and never sent anywhere.
One thing worth being direct about: according to public statements from Google's own webmaster team, keyword density by itself is not treated as a ranking factor. Google has not published what, if anything, it uses in its place, so it's worth treating any specific claim about that, including elsewhere on the web, with some caution. What density is still useful for is a guardrail, not a target: it can help you notice obvious over-repetition that reads as stuffing to a human, or a topic your page barely mentions at all when it's supposed to be the main subject. A commonly cited comfort range is roughly 1-2%, but that's an informal observation from SEO practitioners, not a Google-published rule, and writing naturally for the reader matters more than hitting any number.
